Dügrae Collective American, b. 2016 Train City, 2016 Neon
The recently formed Dügrae Collective, made up of Myself, Gayle Forman and James Akers was born of three artist’s love and admiration of trains, industry and urbanity. As titans of industry, trains and the cargo they carry traverse the winding tracks all over the world, connecting city to city, port to port. They rumble through bustling urban centers adding to the frenetic energy integral to city life. Concurrently running with these tracks are people and the structures and spires they live within. While this installation takes certain inspiration from Norfolk, the imagined landscape melds familiar architecture with shapes and forms found simultaneously everywhere and nowhere.
This installation of Train City is a small-scale proposal for a larger mural that the artists’ hope to find a home for locally.
