EMILY BARTELT JUEL

In my studio practice I explore aspects of daily life and the ever-changing fabric of the American culture. As an artist, I research and discuss the neglected aspects of an American wasteland, such as forgotten architecture, transportation and communities.
As a child I was always intrigued by trains. I’m still mesmerized by them. I get excited when I hear and feel trains getting closer or when I recognize familiar graffiti on the side of a boxcar. This body of work explores transportation as a canvas and the    relationship of graffiti art and it’s many surfaces.
